Sister Kathryn Cameron, c.s.c, Sister Jeannine Bissonnette, s.s.c.g., and Sister Georgette Thibault, s.s.c.g., of our
Diocese of have been awarded the Holy Cross Pro-Ecclesia et Pontifice medal by Pope Benedict XVI. The awards were presented
to them during a special mass to close the Year of St. Paul, on June 29th at St. Finnan’s Cathedral in Alexandria
by His Excellency, Bishop Paul-André Durocher.
Sister Kathryn devoted years to Catholic education for
the S D &
G school board as well as the diocese of Alexandria Cornwall.
Sister
Jeannine Bissonnette was a teacher and later helped to
oversee the opening and running of Shalom House, a
retreat centre
in St. Raphael’s. Over the years, she welcomed more than 84,000
people
to Shalom.
Sister Georgette was also instrumental in the opening and running
of Shalom House
for more than 30 years
The Holy Cross Pro-Ecclesia et Pontifice medal is bestowed to lay people and clergy who have given zealous and outstanding
service to the Church. The honour was instituted by Pope Leo XIII in 1888.

all three for the papal award because of their exemplary service to the Catholic Church.
