Advent
HomeFamily Resource Centre > Advent
The purpose of the Church's year is continually to rehearse her great history of memories, to awaken the heart's memory so that it can discern the star of hope. It is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us, memories of goodness and thus to open doors to hope.
Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger

Lord, our God, we praise you for your Son, Jesus Christ: He is Emmanuel, the hope of all people, he is the wisdom that teaches and guides us, he is the Savior of every nation.

Lord God, let your blessing come upon us as we light the candles of this Advent wreath. May the wreath and its light be a sign of Christ's promise to bring us salvation.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Build a Jesse Tree
with your Children
The symbol of the Jesse Tree sprouts from the prophesies of Isaiah.  Traditionally, a tree branch is decorated with decorative ornaments symbolic of the “spiritual heritage” of Jesus. (Click here for instructions on making a Jesse Tree.)
There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. (Isaiah 11:1)
